San Jose to Samara
My flight left Vancouver at 10:30 pm Dec 17th and stopped in Toronto for a 4 hour layover before heading to San Jose Costa Rica. It was a long tiring haul. We picked up the 4×4 I rented just outside of the airport and after an hour or so filling out paperwork we were on our way!
On our way to getting lost.
It’s really difficult to navigate through San Jose as some places don’t even use addresses. After stopping to ask directions form some kids in front of their home they allowed me to use their WiFi and looked up where the hotel we were staying at on Waze.
We arrived a few ours later then expected but the housekeeper was waiting to let is in . She was really friendly and helpful. After dinner at a local restaurant we went to bed early.
The next morning we checked out the Central Market and had breakfast there. We left San Jose for Samara around 10 am and that was a huge mistake. The traffic in San Jose is insane! It took us an hour just to get to the freeway. Once on the freeway it was smooth sailing. With one exception. The GPS routed us through a dodgy dirt road where we had to do a river crossing in the 4X4. We finally made it to Samara after 5 1/2 hours or so.
This place is so amazing. It’s very laid back and the owners of the place we are staying are very friendly. An older Indian gentleman, Hussein from Toronto originally and his Russian wife.
After breakfast the next day they took us to a secluded beach to do some snorkeling. It was absolutely amazing.
Tomorrow we are taking surfing lessons and doing some more snorkeling.
