Santorini Greece

Santorini Greece

I don’t think I slept at all the first few days in Santorini and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It is definitely a party town that’s for sure. There were night we went out for dinner and drinks and we would look at our watches and it was 4:30 AM. Time seems to stand still in Santorini. The food was amazing there and the sunsets where only second to Costa Rica sunsets.

One of our waiters one night was a young Indian boy. He was shocked that I was also Indian and we spoke Punjabi to each other all night. He told us how he left India at the age of 17 to come to Greece to find a better live. His family had paid some people to smuggle him to Greece by stowing away in the luggage area of a bus. The long journey was horrible as you can imagine. When he got to Pakistan he was beaten by some of the people there. He says he is so very grateful to be where is in now even though the Greek people don’t treat Indians well. He feels that it’s still better than being back in India. He hopes to get his family to Greece soon.

We are so privileged to be able to travel safety as westerners. Yet another reminder you realize when you travel how lucky we are.
