The drive from Samara to Quepos to Puerto Jemeniz
Driving in Costa Rica can be quite stressful. The roads are very narrow and winding. There are a lot of trucks that travel the roads and they tend to hold up traffic. The speed limits vary from 40 kph to the rare 80 kph and there are not any alternate routes to take so if you get stuff behind someone slow, you’re there for a while until you make a risky passing move. We ran into holiday traffic leaving Samara ( pronounced like camera with an S) so it took us 6 hours to reach Quepos. I was quite exhausted once we rolled into town .
I can’t say enough good things about our hosts in Samara. Hussein and his wife Marisa were so welcoming and kind. They shared their secret snorkeling location with us away from the crowed beaches. If I return to Samara I will be staying with them again that’s for sure.
If you are planning a trip to the Beautiful Nicoya Peninsula I recommend you look them up.

The drive from Quepos to The Osa Peninsula is absolutely breathtaking. You drive along the coast, then up into the mountains then finally ascending into the coast again. There was some treacherous washouts but after around 4 hours we made it to our hotel the Agua Dolce. The same place I stayed 3 years ago.
It’s difficult to get to as it’s a long dirt road that’s not in very good shape but the great thing about it is that you pretty much have the whole beach to yourselves.
