Tulum Mexico
I’m finally getting around to writing about my trip to Tulum. It was a hectic Jan as I just got back form Costa Rica and 4 days later I was off to Tulum Mexico. I work for an awesome boss to allow me to do that.
There was 7 of us that went, Kim, Adam, Rog, Brandon, Alexis and Cam and it was a ton of fun. It’s always fun with this group as they are some of my closest pals. We stayed at the Grand Bahia Principe and it’s a beautiful resort. It is HUGE with over 900 rooms. I must say though the service was very poor. The staff was not friendly at all. Most of the bars and restaurants closed at 10:30 pm or 11 pm and as soon as 10:30 would hit they would start clearing your table whether you were finished or not and kick you out. I can’t help but think that this could be a part of the Trump effect. Every time we have been to Mexico the people have been very pleasant. I wonder if they thought we were American?
Regardless we all still had a very good time. I managed to not have my traditional down day of not leaving the hotel room J
The Tulum ruins were very cool as they are perched beside a cliff that overlooks the ocean. They were a lot smaller than I expected as we walked through them rather quickly.
It was tough for me to stay in the present while I was there as my mind was still in Costa Rica. I could go on about how much I love Costa Rica, but I’m sure you all get the picture.
One night while we were on the other side of resort having dinner we found out that a part of the hotel had burned down. That was pretty crazy! The main lobby bar went up in flames. The safety standards in Mexico aren’t what they are here. There was no fire suppression sprinklers installed on the tall grass roofed structures and a short in the wiring ( most likely) sparked and ignited the grass roof and within minutes it was torched.
Here’s an article on it.
Another night there was a shooting at a night club in Play that killed 5 people, including 2 Canadians. 13 other people were injured as well. The Mexican cartel was to blame apparently. I felt much safer in the jungles of Costa Rica. I’ll take running into a Puma or a pit viper over man any day.
